Let the music get there first. I like the way a low note can change the mood before anything else happens, how a rhythm gives the room something shared to settle into. That's where I begin onstage. I listen for the parts worth lingering in and let my performance grow from them, taking my time with whatever the music makes possible.

Come to the club with enough time to sink into the atmosphere. Find a place where you can watch comfortably and let the next song arrive. I'd like my part of the evening to feel absorbing, with details you can follow as they develop. You can give yourself over to enjoying the performance and let everything else wait for a few minutes.

Between songs, I like letting some of that mood carry on. We can say hello without immediately shaking off the feeling of being here.
